In computer networking, a zone file is a database element of the domain name system (DNS) used by BIND and other DNS software. A zone file will typically contain mappings between domain names and IP addresses for a specific set of IP addresses.
Contrast zone files to the plain-text data files used by djbdns. Some administrators consider these to be efficient and easy to parse, other adminstrators think that BIND is easier to read.
